On 22nd March, the band competed in the London & Southern counties regional qualifying contest held at Stevenage Arts and Leisure centre.
Every year, the band compete against eleven other championship section brass bands at this contest for the chance to compete at the Finals of the brass band championships of Great Britain that are held at the Royal Albert Hall in October each year.
With the top two bands each year gaining qualification, the band have secured a spot at this contest no less than eight times in the past eleven years. Unfortunately, it was not to be this year.
The test piece for this years contest was Salute to Youth by Gilbert Vinter. After a tough few weeks of preparaton for this contest, the band went on stage with a performance that was by no means without it's slips and narrowly missed out on a qualification for the Albert Hall with a third place finish.
Congratulations go to the Winners, Redbridge Brass and runners up, Zone One Brass who gained their first ever qualification spot and will represent the area at the finals in October. We wish both bands all the best later in the year.
